Egyptian Age

The Ancient Egypt was such an amazing society. We will discuss how and why the pyramid was built, then learn about some cultural background information of the Egyptian Art.
The art project is going to be tricky. Please plan on coming in at least 15 minutes early to set up the materials. If you're teaching a younger grade, you do not need to mix five colors. Keep it simple and make sure they will have enough time to finish their project. 

For this unit, I'm excited to announce that the Utah Museum of Fine Art is loaning us boxed objects as well as hands-on objects of Ancient Egypt. You will be able to preview them at the parent training on November 5th if you'd like to use them in your class.

Prehistoric Age

Prehistoric Age is a good introduction unit. The students will have fun thinking about the survival ideas, and making their own cave art. Don't forget to praise them for their effort!

Welcome to the Art Through the Ages!

Pop Art

The last unit of Art through the Ages program is Pop Art. This period begins after WWII and there were many changes to American Culture. Growth in the population, job market, housing market, clothing choices, products, and cars. The middle class became the majority for the first time in history. How does this affect to the art scene? The students will learn the persuasive art (a.k.a. advertisement) and they are going to mass produce their own portraits.

Abstract Expressionism Age

Welcome to Abstract Expressionism Age! In this unit, we will be creating "action paintings" inspired by Jackson Pollock.

Please discuss with the teacher before class to determine where to set up the art project. Be firm to the students and make sure they will follow directions. 

Don't forget to play music (CD is available at my desk) while they are painting.

Realism & Surrealism Ages

Realism & Surrealism Ages covers 1929-1942, and it will challenge the students to think outside the box. The art project will be a collage inspired by Max Ernst.

For those who are familiar with this art, please rest assured that we are not showing the whole painting to the students.

Expressionism Age

Edvard Munch's "The Scream" is often described as the first expressionistic painting. Expressionism art is filled with emotions. During this time period (1905-1920), there was plenty of emotions and the students will learn to express their emotions with the art project for this unit.
