Renaissance Age

Renaissance Age is our next unit. Since Renaissance is one of the most prolific artistic periods of time, we have three lessons/days for this unit.
Here is the list of what the students will learn;
  • The basics of early commerce and the birth of Humanism
  • Linear perspective
  • Chiaroscuro
  • How to draw a face
  • Fresco art (portrait)
Some example of fresco art done by our students. Aren't they wonderful?

Dark Ages

Welcome to the Dark Ages! This is one of my favorite units. The history portion of this unit is easily relatable for the students. The reaction you receive when you break the sticks is priceless! Please dramatize this portion of the lesson so that the students will absorb the idea of raiding tribes.

The Art Concept for this unit covers color contrast.  is also very fun because it's the first time we talk about color. If you don't have magazines it's really easy to use the clothing of the kids to illustrate the different color combinations.

Day 2 is a big day for 4-6th grade. The Art Project for this unit is mosaic art (the 1-3rd grade will make paper mosaic). Please make sure you give yourself plenty of time to prepare your mortar. If you have any questions/concerns, please let me know.

Have fun!

Roman Age

Roman Age is our next unit. There are so many activities you can do, and you might feel overwhelmed. Please feel free to pick a few topics you are most interested in, and modify the activity if necessary.

The parent training will be held on 3/11 from 10-11 AM. I strongly encourage you to attend if you are teaching this unit.

Thank you for all you do!

Qin Dynasty

Welcome to the Qin Dynasty! The Qin Dynasty was the first Imperial dynasty of China. The emperor, Qin Shih Huang Ti, accomplished many things in 15 years, but he was not a popular leader.

Art project will be Chinese scrolls. This will require a lot less preparation compared to the Egyptian Age, but please make sure that you are familiar with Chinese characters you are going to teach. I strongly encourage you to come to the parent meeting on 1/22 (tue) at 10 am if you've never taught this unit before. I will demonstrate how to write them.

Egyptian Age

The Ancient Egypt was such an amazing society. We will discuss how and why the pyramid was built, then learn about some cultural background information of the Egyptian Art.
The art project is going to be tricky. Please plan on coming in at least 15 minutes early to set up the materials. If you're teaching a younger grade, you do not need to mix five colors. Keep it simple and make sure they will have enough time to finish their project.

For this unit, I'm excited to announce that the Utah Museum of Fine Art is loaning us boxed objects as well as hands-on objects of Ancient Egypt. You will be able to preview them at the parent training on November 5th if you'd like to use them in your class.
