The Parent Training Meeting

Thank you to all the parents who have signed up to volunteer in their child's classroom.
We have about 45 volunteers already. I can tell that it is going to be another wonderful year for the Art Through the Ages.
I am always amazed and impressed that we have very supportive parents at our school. No wonder we have such great students!

For those who are new to this program, let me assure you that you do not need to have prior knowledge of art/art history to teach the lesson. We have a parent training for each unit, and the instruction manual is quite easy to understand. All the materials you need are provided, and if you ever need any help, you can always call or email me. I'll be happy to help you in anyway I can.

The best part of volunteering in your child's class is the reaction your child may have from your presence. I have many students come over to me and tell me proudly, "my mom/dad is going to teach Art Through the Ages!". What a terrific way to show your child that you care.

The first training will be held on September 26th at 10 am. This is for the first unit "Post-Impressionism Age", but please plan on attending especially if this is your first year. We'll go over the teaching technique and the procedure to run the program. You will also have an opportunity to meet the other parents in your child's classroom.

Thank you!

  1. I am interested in volunteering, but would like to know time commitments first so I can make sure I am able to do it. How many training sessions will there be, and how long are each? How often will I be teaching in the classroom and for how long each time? I would love to help, but don't know if this is a once-a-week or once a month thing.

  2. Thank you for your interest.
Each unit requires 2 hours (two days, one hour each), and the training usually lasts 1 hour. We have 5 units this year, but if your child's class has a few volunteers, you only need to teach one or two unit. I try not to make one parent teach all of them, and I'll keep recruiting if there's not enough volunteers for your child's class.
I'll post the detailed schedule soon.
If you'd like to know your child's class schedule, please email me (satoko.turnbull@jordan.k12.ut.us)and I can send you the schedule.

    Thank you!
